Ricky Martin Launches “VIDA” Music Video Recorded in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
The energy, fun, sensuality and culture of the Brazilian people, through music and soccer, are highlights of the “VIDA” music video, by singer Ricky Martin. Recorded in Rio de Janeiro and set for worldwide release at 10am (Brazil time) next Tuesday (04/22) on Vevo, the music video was shot in three days and directed by Kátia Lund (“News From a Personal War” and “City of God”) and Lívia Gama of Bossa Nova Films. The song was composed by Elijah King, winner of the SuperSong, and produced by Salaam Remi. Approximately one hundred people, including children, dancers, models, Capoeira and Samba artists, and soccer players comprised the cast, which was thoroughly chosen to represent the physical and behavioral diversity, which are very strong characteristics of the Brazilian people. The production involved 70 professionals, three Sony cameras, including 4K camera. In the music video, Ricky appears very relaxed, dancing on the beach, biking, applauding the sunset and even risking a few “passinho” moves – famous local dance derived from funk. Everything guided by the engaging Latin rhythm in the song “VIDA”. “I had so much fun traveling to Brazil and filming there. It is an incredible feeling to have had the opportunity to participate in this global initiative that is the SuperSong. I am very excited to finally perform ‘VIDA’ and share this special song with the world”, says Ricky. “The lyrics and the emotion in ‘VIDA’ music video are inviting everyone to celebrate life, pure and simple: the sun, the gathering, the energy. It’s about a life in which differences are celebrated and appreciated with ease and joy. That’s why Ricky wanted a video unlike anything he had ever done before: without choreography, big sets and scenes being ‘directed’. He just wanted it to be natural”, reveals director Kátia Lund. SuperSong Supersong is a One Sony project – that incorporates Sony Corp, Sony Music, Sony Pictures Television, Sony Mobile Communications and Sony / ATV – announced and launched jointly with FIFA, in December, 2013. The project received a total of 1,600 songs written by aspiring musicians and soccer fans from 29 different countries. All songs had a very high quality, showing the creativity, diversity and the emotion that unites sports and music. After several stages that included the judges’ input, the audience voting and Ricky’s participation, the competition reached a final decision. “The main idea was to bring together a pop star and music lovers around the world to create a song for the official World Cup soundtrack, using the great power and reach of social media. Music, soccer and sports are a perfect match, but fans are the ones who make all the fun happen. SuperSong provided an opportunity for anyone who wishes to become a star”, says Alexandre Schiavo, President of Sony Music Brasil, and the project’s mastermind.
