RIAA Recognizes Romeo Santos’ “Formula Vol. 2” As Top Certified Latin Album In 2014

Before Saturday’s historic second concert at Yankee Stadium, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) presented Sony Music Latin artist Romeo Santos with a 4x multi-Platino award for his album “Formula Vol. 2.” “Formula Vol. 2” was recognized by the RIAA as the top certified Latin album so far this year. “Gold & Platinum awards are the benchmarks of success in the music marketplace,” said Jonathan Lamy, Executive Vice President, Communications, RIAA, who helped present the award to Santos at a news conference at Yankee Stadium.  “Multi-Platinum success is incredibly rare.  That’s why what Romeo Santos has accomplished this year is so special.  Along with our colleagues at Sony Music Latin, we are proud to help recognize Romeo’s unparalleled achievement of earning a 4x multi-Platino award for ‘Formula Vol. 2.’” Santos’ album is the only album so far this year to receive multi-Platino status, according to the RIAA. “Romeo’s album is the top certified Latin album in 2014,” said Cesar Ochoa, VP of Sales for Sony Music Latin, who joined the RIAA’s Lamy in presenting the prestigious award to Santos.  “It’s not only the top certified album – ‘Formula Vol. 2’ is the only album to receive RIAA multi-Platino status so far this year.  That’s quite an extraordinary accomplishment that we were proud to help celebrate with Romeo.” For more than five decades, the RIAA’s Gold & Platinum Program has served as the industry’s premier way of recognizing success in the music marketplace.  In 2001, the RIAA created a special Latin G&P Program – Premios de Oro y Platino Sales Award – to recognize the unique importance of the Latin music market and honor the success of Latin artists.
