NATALIA LAFOURCADE lanza “PARA QUÉ SUFRIR – VERSIÓN ACÚSTICA” nuevo video oficial de UN CANTO POR MÉXICO

MIAMI (August 30, 2021) – Natalia Lafourcade and Jorge Drexler exude talent and naturalness in their new video “Para qué sufrir” – versión acústica, a warm, unedited recording captured in one take at Sony studios.

As part of the second volume of Un canto por México Natalia Lafourcade has gifted us the official video of her collaboration with Jorge Drexler: an unplugged version of “Para Qué Sufrir”.

Written by Natalia and Juan Manuel Torreblanca ,“Para qué sufrir”, which first appeared on Hasta la Raíz  (2005), received two Latin GRAMMY® (Best Alternative Music Album and Best Engineered Album) and was a milestone in the career of this multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter and singer. Over the years, this song has become one of Natalia‘s favorites and was consequently chosen for inclusion in the Un canto por México collection, whose first volume garnered two Latin GRAMMY®: Best Regional Mexican Song for “Mi religion” and Album of the Year, with which she became the third woman in GRAMMY® history to win this award.

The acoustic version of “Para qué sufrir” is the eleventh song on Un canto por México, Vol. 2, and features Best Original Song Oscar winner Jorge Drexler. This Uruguayan and Natalia have enjoyed a long friendship, which brought them together musically for the first time on “Oración caribe“, a song on Natalia‘s Mujer Divina – Homenaje a Agustín Lara, an album released in 2012. They came together again to work on “Salvavidas de hielo“, a track from Jorge‘s 2017 production of the same name. In Natalia‘s new video,  a warm, unedited recording captured in one take, the two musical artists exude talent and naturalness from the moment the cameras started rolling in Sony‘s studios.

Natalia was recently recognized by GQ magazine as one of 21 musical artists destined to change world music, which comes in addition to a recent mention as one of the 100 Most Powerful Women in Mexico (Forbes) and a long list of awards garnered by the Mexican, who in the course of her career has received two GRAMMY® awards and fourteen Latin GRAMMY®.

Currently, together with a group of experts, Natalia Lafourcade is devoting her efforts to driving the reconstruction of the Son Jarocho Documentation Center (CDSJ) through her altruistic project Un Canto por México (A Song for Mexico).

Un canto por México:

Un canto por México is charity musical project through which Natalia Lafourcade supports different causes: on this occasion the reconstruction of the Son Jarocho Documentation Center which, in 2017, was seriously under threat. In addition to the support of diverse donors and other specific efforts, a sold-out live presentation was given at the Mexico City National Auditorium in November 2019 under this project’s banner. All the proceeds went to the reconstruction of the Son Jarocho Documentation Center. The albums Un canto por México Volume One and Volume Two are an offering from the musical community that put on this concert.

The Son Jarocho Documentation Center:

The Son Jarocho Documentation Center (CDSJ) was founded by Ricardo Perry y los Cojolites over 19 years ago. Since then it has trained musicians, dancers, and provided training for the textile and pottery industries, in the culinary arts and other specialties of the people of Veracruz. The CDSJ has strengthened the social fabric and preserved community traditions, in addition to being the only place in Mexico where the son jarocho (typical music from Veracruz) is documented. During the September 2017 earthquakes, the CDSJ suffered severe damage, and Natalia Lafourcade took it upon herself to help rebuild it. At the artist’s request, Nido Social A.C., the Fideicomiso Fuerza México, Pienza Sostenible AC and Taller ADG, among others, set the process in motion, giving birth to “Juntos por CDSJ” (Together for the CDSJ) (@juntos_cdsj), whose purpose is to find volunteers, raise funds and channel all kinds of help into the reconstruction of the center and the homes of the families that used to live there.
