BEATRIZ LUENGO Premieres The Music Video Of Her Single “OJOS DE MANDELA” With ALEJANDRO SANZ

MIAMI (July 31, 2020)  Beatriz Luengo premieres the music video of her song “Ojos de Mandela” with the legendary Alejandro Sanz. This track is included on her recent studio album Cuerpo y Alma (Body and Soul), and goes straight to the heart, as the voices of Beatriz and Alejandro work their mysterious magic, delighting our senses.

One of the songs that Beatriz Luengo is most proud of writing, “Ojos de Mandela” has become a sleeper sensation on streaming playlists. Released in May 2018, Cuerpo y Alma has produced over 200 million audio and video streams worldwide, with an emphasis on Spain, the native country of both Beatriz and Alejandro. The slow building but unstoppable momentum of this track convinced its two interpreters to create a music video for it.

Sensitive and delicate, the lyrics leave an impression. The original concept is based on a reflection that the singer and songwriter made about a phrase from the novel The Little Prince: “The essential is invisible to the eye.” As Beatriz explains it: “Often when we are in despair, we invoke God, or whatever word we use, who is unseen. We think he should physically appear before us with arms and legs and say: ‘Here I am!’ And that’s the only thing that can alleviate our pain. There was a time, a while back, when my mother was sick and I felt just that kind of despair. I was invoking God, but I learned that for me, faith was right before my eyes, in my mother’s smile, in the gestures of her medical team, and the positive vibes they gave to my family. That’s the faith that I’m singing to today. That’s what the song is about and I focus on Nelson Mandela, who said: ‘I learned that courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.’ Those words go with me through life and are a fundamental part of the message.”

The music video’s director Asiel discusses his conceptual framework: “When I was a painter, I loved the dirty palette, the brush’s accident, the stained apron. Now, I discover beauty in the found object, the seams, ripped paper, and unfinished work. Everything that’s negative can provide us with a reflection that makes us love things that previously escaped our attention, or we took for granted. Beatriz called me to talk about this song and I connected with it immediately. Music is a healing force that we all have access to. It’s not every day that I hear songs with such poetic language. Beatriz filled me in on her causes and struggles of the past year and wanted to turn them into imagery for the video – FGM, racism, pandemic…and Madrid! ‘Please Asiel,’ she told me, ‘I need to see my Madrid, my country specifically – it will be my tribute to the victims and the pain of the people close to me.”

About Beatriz Luengo:

Cuerpo & Alma (Body and Soul) is the most ambitious album that Beatriz Luengo has released, encompassing five years of exploration, songwriting, and encounters with the best artists and producers of Spain and Latin America. It’s a dual album that defines who Beatriz Luengo is: one of Spanish-language pop’s most brilliant composers (the soul side), and a visionary, revolutionary artist whose roots are in the fusion of such genres as R&B, hip-hop, dembow and Latin urban. She is deft at creating songs with the complete package – music, dance, and amalgams. Among the major hits that this record has spun off in the Spanish-speaking world are  “Más Que Suerte” with the Mexican pop trio Reik (certified Platinum in Spain, Mexico and Chile; and Gold in Argentina). “Caprichosa,” with Mala Rodriguez, was certified Platinum in Spain.

Debuting as an author, Beatriz Luengo in October 2019 published her first book El Despertar De Las Musas, a highly personal reflection on feminism, machismo, and the role of muses. Beatriz speaks of her reality as a woman by way of 12 stories where she calls on us to understand the feminist movement for what is really is: a human-rights movement. This best-seller is now in its seventh printing.

In 2018, she received the ASCAP Award for writing “Fiebre,” a huge hit for the worldwide star Ricky Martin. She is also a regular correspondent for the prestigious publication Billboard Latin. Beatriz Luengo is a member of the Alicia Keys-led nonprofit “She is The Music,” which entirely comprises women who work in the music industry, including artists, songwriters and professionals. An independent organization, SITM is working to increase the number of women in music and transforming the gender landscape of the industry.
