Nacida en Medellín, Colombia, país que ha visto nacer a unas de las estrellas más brillantes de la música latina, Farina afirma que su nombre significa “Faro de luz” en árabe, mientras su apellido Pao significa “envolver” en chino. Ella es orgullosa de su ascendencia materna y paterna y la combinación vibrante de culturas que forman el núcleo de su arte. Heredera de una familia de compositores e intérpretes, ha estado rodeada de la música desde muy temprana edad. Su mezcla de raíces caribeñas, árabes, chinas y andinas se nota no solamente en sus rastros físicos sino también en su sonido que no se parece a el de ningún otro artista.
2017 ha sido un “renacimiento” musical para Farina con el lanzamiento mundial de su sencillo, “Mejor Que Yo” producido por los exitosos productores de género A&X – Alcover & Xtassy. Ella también fue uno de los tres artistas nominados para la campaña “Artist of Tomorrow” (Artista de Mañana) en conjunción con la edición 59 de GRAMMY y CBS.com. Fue la única artista latina en participar en el programa.
Su carrera profesional comenzó en 2005 cuando debutó en la reality colombiana Factor X, quedando en tercer lugar entre más de 45 mil aspirantes. Dándose a conocer en todo el país, se convirtió en una pionera femenina de la música urbana en Colombia.
Su álbum debut Yo Soy Farina (2006) se enfocó en el dancehall, género que más le ha influido. Producido por Jacob Bush y Billy Francis, el álbum la consolidó como un personaje imponente en la música. En 2009, lanzó el romántico sencillo “Hasta El Final,” fusionando R&B con dancehall. Durante esta época de su carrera, se dedicó a colaborar con otros artistas en la isla caribeña de San Andrés, lugar que considera su segundo hogar.
Farina debutó como actriz en la telenovela Tres Milagros, que llegó a ser la serie de mayor audiencia del 2011 en Colombia. Esta novela también fue transmitida en Panamá, Venezuela, Ecuador, República Dominicana y Estados Unidos, dándole seguidores internacionales. Por su papel estelar como Milagros Cruz “Nikita”, recibió dos nominaciones a los Premios TVyNovelas en Colombia en las categorías de Mejor Actriz y Revelación del Año. El papel y su actuación se adentraron a la conciencia nacional, de hecho una de sus escenas fue incorporada en el reality Protagonistas de Nuestra Tele en Colombia como un retos culminante para los concursantes.
Su segundo álbum Del Odio Al Amor fue editado en 2012, en formato digital. Los 12 temas son escritos por ella y producidos por DJ Largo. El álbum incluye duetos con artistas de la talla de Rayo & Toby, y Pipe Calderón. Los prestigiosos productores José Gaviria y Fernando Tobon “Toby” también participaron en este disco. Alcanzó el éxito internacional con el sencillo “Pongan Atención,” también tuvo buenos resultados con los sencillos “Soñar no Cuesta Nada,” “Money” y “Entre la Espada y la Pared.”
En 2013, fue premiada como Mejor Artista Colombia en los Premios Mi Gente TV. Durante esta ceremonia, presentó su canción “Ácido” feat. Rayo & Toby en vivo. Recientemente, su fama internacional ha crecido rápidamente gracias a sus éxitos “PumPum” feat. Ñengo Flow y “Jala Jala” feat. J Álvarez. Farina se ha posicionado como una de las jóvenes artistas urbanas más prometedoras, y ha ganado el respeto de sus colegas en este género dominado por los artistas masculinos. Sus videos han acumulado un total de más de 100 millones de reproducciones y son frecuentemente transmitidos por HTV, el influyente canal de videos.
Para las niñas de América Latina, Farina es estimada como modelo a seguir, mientras cada vez más admiradores la buscan en las redes sociales y miran sus videos musicales. Farina diseñó su propia línea de ropa que se estrenó en mayo 2014. Con gorras, camisetas y hoodies engalanados con su conocido logotipo, la letra “F” en forma de tacón alto, esta línea rápidamente alcanzó altas ventas en Colombia y la consolidó como empresaria.
El próximo álbum de Farina promete ser su gran salto a la fama mundial. Se encuentra en los estudios de grabación con su padrino musical y mentor, el legendario ganador del GRAMMY® Wyclef Jean (Shakira, Fugees, Santana y Whitney Houston). Reconociendo sus talentos singulares, Wyclef la ha apadrinado, produciendo varios temas para su próximo álbum que destacan su esencia musical. Algunos de los títulos son “Casanova,” “Que Comience La Fiesta” y la canción folclórica “Aguacero de Mayo.” Wyclef quedó tan impresionado con su trabajo en el estudio que la invitó a participar en el remix Spanglish de su corte “Hendrix” y en su canción “Party Started” que forma parte de su próximo EP J’ouvert.
El tercer álbum de Farina promete ser el más grande de su carrera. También ha grabado canciones recientemente con los productores ganadores del GRAMMY® Echo y A&X Al Cover, quienes han trabajado en himnos de el género urbano como “Gasolina” (Daddy Yankee) y “Danza Kuduro” (Don Omar). Manteniéndose fiel a sus raíces caribeñas, Farina también ha grabado “Si Ellos Supieran” al estilo trap con el joven rapero puertorriqueño Bryant Myers.

Born in Medellin, Colombia, a country that has produced some of the brightest stars to come out of Latin America, Farina, which in Arabic means “unique” and Pao (her surname) the Chinese meaning for “wrap around”, refers to her maternal and paternal ancestry and a diverse combination of cultures and heritage that are at the core of her artistry. Coming from a long line of composers and singers, music has been inherited since birth from family. Her eclectic heritage of Caribbean, Arabic, Chinese and Andean descendants not only has attributed to her physical features but also is a distinct influence on her sound and style setting her apart from many of her contemporaries.
2017 has been a musical “rebirth” for Farina with the worldwide release of her single, “Mejor Que Yo” produced by genre hitmakers A&X- Alcover & Xtassy. She was also one of three artists nominated for the Artist of Tomorrow campaign in conjunction with the 59th GRAMMY Awards and CBS.com. She was the only Latin artist to participate in the program.
2005 was the year Farina’s “musical birth” where she debuted on national television participating on the reality talent show “Factor X” (Colombia), finishing third place, amongst the more than 45,000 thousand applicants. Farina’s performances garnered her national attention, as she became the first female artist to dominate the Latin Urban genre in her native Colombia.
Her debut album, “Yo Soy Farina”, was released the following year with many of the songs predominately featuring her greatest musical influence, dancehall. Produced by Jacob Bush and Billy Francis the album helped to establish Farina’s dominant feminist persona. In 2009, she released “Hasta El Final”, a romantic song that fuses R&B and dancehall. Around the same time, she devoted herself to collaborating with other artists on the island of San Andres; a place she considers her second home.
Farina debuted as an actress in the telenovela, Tres Milagros the most-watched series of 2011 in Colombia. The successful production also aired in Panama, Venezuela, Ecuador, Dominican Republic and the U.S. introducing Farina to international audiences and broadening her appeal. For her starring role as Milagros “Nikita” Cruz she received two nominations for the prestigious TVyNovelas Awards in Colombia “Best Actress” and “Revelation of the Year” for her outstanding performance in the series. The character and her interpretation became iconic entering pop culture with the reality series show “Protagonistas de Nuestra Tele” using one of her scenes as a final challenge for contestants.
In 2012, Farina released digitally second album, “Del Odio Al Amor”, a compilation of 12 songs all composed by her and produced by DJ Largo. The album featured collaborations with artists such as Rayo & Toby and Pipe Calderon. Renowned producer, José Gaviria and Fernando Tobon (Toby), were also part of the production. “Soñar no cuesta nada”, “Money”, “Entre la espada y la pared” and the international hit, “Pongan Atención” were all included on the album and helped to solidify her fan base.
In 2013, she was honored as the “Best Colombian Artist” at the Mi Gente TV Awards, where she also performed “Acido” feat. Rayo &Toby. Thanks to the worldwide acceptance of her hits “PumPum” featuring Ñengo Flow and “Jala Jala” with J Alvarez, Farina has been positioned as one of the most important new urban artists in Latin music earning the respect from her colleagues in the male dominated genre. Her videos have accumulated over 100 million views combined and have become popular fixtures on HTV among others.
With her number of followers, daily views of her music videos and visits to social networks surging, Farina has become an inspiration and role model among young girls across all of Latin America. Farina developed her own apparel line, which launched in May of 2014. Emulating her own fashion style and tastes her inspired hats, caps, t-shirts and hoodies, all featuring her trademark logo tacones (High Heel Shoe) became very popular in Colombia further developing her brand.
Farina is currently recording a brand new album, Mejor Que Yo with her eyes set on the international market. She has been in the studio working alongside her mentor, musical godfather, legendary GRAMMY® Award winning megastar Wyclef Jean (Shakira, Fugees, Santana & Whitney Houston). Acknowledging her unique artistic talents, Wyclef has taken her under his wing producing several tracks for her upcoming release helping to bring out her musical essence working on such jems as “Cassanova”, “Rub a Dub” and the folkloric “Aguacero” a tribute to her native Colombia and aunt Toto La Momposina (Queen of Colombian Folklore and Latin GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement winner). Wyclef so intrigued with their work in the studio invited her to appear on the Spanglish Remix of his song, “Hendrix” and included her on his new EP J’ouvert on the song “Party Started” introducing Farina to new markets.
In what is sure to be a very dynamic masterpiece Farina has also recorded songs with GRAMMY® Award winning producers Echo and A&X (Al Cover) who have been behind some of the biggest worldwide urban anthems this decade including “Gasolina” (Daddy Yankee) and “Danza Kuduro” (Don Omar). Staying true to her hardcore roots Farina recorded a duet with Puerto Rican trap star Bryant Myers on the trap infused song, “Si Ellos Supieran”.
