De una manera muy Gen-Z, Conexión Divina se conoció a través de las redes sociales. Cada uno de los miembros publicaba covers de canciones en TikTok, YouTube e Instagram cuando llamaron la atención del otro y se conocieron a través de DMs. Gracias a esa conexión que establecieron en Internet, se les ocurrió el nombre de Conexión Divina. El nombre también representa la perspectiva femenina que el grupo está aportando a la música regional mexicana con un toque juvenil y también está fuertemente influenciado por la reconocida canción de Vicente Fernández, “Mujeres Divinas”.
“Nuestra música tiene las raíces de la música tradicional, regional mexicana, pero mezclada con los sonidos de hoy”, dice Sandra. “Podemos conectar a las generaciones mayores con las nuevas a través de nuestras canciones”, agrega, Ashlee.
A través de Sony Music Latin, Conexión Divina lanzó su sencillo debut “Odio”. En la desgarradora balada sierreño, Liz canta sobre estar enamorada de alguien que no puede tener. “Estás ahí con esos sentimientos. Quieres que funcione, pero no sabes por qué no funciona y es frustrante”, dice Ashlee. Conexión Divina también está rompiendo límites de la música regional mexicana con el vídeo musical de “Odio”. A través de sus parejas en pantalla, las tres mujeres se ven envueltas en un triángulo amoroso en el que sus romances se solapan. “Todos juegan demasiado”, canta Liz en la canción. Conexión Divina ideó el concepto del vídeo.
“Creo que nuestra generación juega demasiado y todos lo sabemos”, dice Ashlee riendo.
“Odio” es un adelanto del EP de Conexión Divina que están grabando. El trío está trabajando en canciones de diferentes géneros del espectro musical regional mexicano. Con Sony, están entusiasmadas con el futuro del grupo.
“Queremos que nuestra música conecte con toda la gente, no sólo con un grupo en particular”, dice Liz. “Queremos que nuestra música llegue a lugares donde nunca hemos estado”, añade Ashlee.
Conexión Divina make history as the world’s first Gen-Z female sierreño group. The trio of Mexican American Latinas not only sing but they also write their own songs and play their instruments.
“That’s the whole concept of our group: that women can do it too!” says Liz, the leader of the group.
The members of Conexión Divina come from different parts of the U.S. Liz, who is 18 and sings lead vocals, was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. Ashlee, who is 22, grew up in Arizona, and plays the requinto guitar. Sandra, who is 19, was raised in Dallas and plays the bass guitar. Sandra and Ashlee later relocated to L.A. to form the group with Liz.
“We’re three different personalities, three different mentalities, and I feel like people are going to connect with us as individuals as well and altogether too,” says Ashlee.
In a very Gen Z manner, Conexión Divina met through social media. Each member was posting song covers on TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram when they caught each other’s attention and got acquainted through DMs. It’s because of that connection they made online that they came up with the name Conexión Divina. The name also represents the feminine perspective that the group is bringing to regional Mexican music with a youthful touch and is also heavily influenced by Vicente Fernandez infamous song, “Mujeres Divinas”.
“Our music has the roots of old regional Mexican music, but it’s mixed with today’s sounds,” says Sandra. “We can connect older generations with the new generation through our songs,” Ashlee adds.
Through Sony Music Latin, Conexión Divina released their debut single “Odio.” In the heartbreaking sierreño ballad, Liz sings about being in love with someone that she can’t have. “You’re just there with those feelings. You want it to work, but you don’t know why it’s not working and it’s frustrating,” Ashlee says. Conexión Divina is also pushing boundaries in regional Mexican music with “Odio” music video. Through their onscreen partners, the three women are involved in a love triangle where their romances overlap. “Ya’ll play too much,” Liz sings in the song. Conexión Divina came up with the concept for the video.
“I feel like our generation plays too much and we all know it,” Ashlee says with a laugh.
“Odio” previews Conexión Divina’s EP that they’re currently recording. The trio is working on songs in different genres across the regional Mexican music spectrum. With Sony, they’re excited for the future of the group.
“We want our music to connect to all people, not just one particular group,” Liz says. “We want our music to go places where we’ve never been before,” Ashlee adds.
