Celebrating 15 years of groundbreaking music
with a new, ‘Classic’ album
Just as Los Relámpagos del Norte defined modern norteño throughout the 1960s, INTOCABLE has set the standard in this heartfelt genre for Generations X and Y. INTOCABLE grew up admiring the music of Los Relámpagos del Norte, the duo consisting of Cornelio Reyna (1940-1997), and Ramón Ayala. Now, INTOCABLE pays tribute to this groundbreaking group with their new album Classic.
Ricky Muñoz, lead singer and accordion player of INTOCABLE, remembers when he saw Ayala, by then a very successful solo artist, in concert for the first time: “I was a kid. It was Easter Sunday and my family took me to see Ramón Ayala. And I said, ‘I’m going to do that…’”
He goes on to say: “We wanted to make this album a tribute to Los Relámpagos del Norte. They’re pillars of norteño music. We admire them, but more than that, we identify with them because when they were active – in the 1960s – they revolutionized norteño music just as we do today.”
And then he comes full circle: “We made our dream come true by working with Ramón Ayala in the studio.” That’s right – Ramón Ayala himself is the producer of Classic!
Nourished by the music of Ayala and Los Relámpagos, INTOCABLE has gone on to become a true icon of norteño music. But it all began in Zapata, Texas, pop. 5,413, where a couple of kids – Ricky Muñoz and René Martínez (drums) – dreamed of success as they rehearsed day after day.
Years later, that rehearsal space would become a recording studio where the past and the present meet. That’s where the final details of the recording, number 13 in INTOCABLE’s studio discography, were tweaked and polished.
Every note of Classic is suffused with Ricky and René’s love of norteño music. All 17 of the album’s songs were originally recorded by Los Relámpagos del Norte.
“We grew up listening to the great music of Los Relámpagos and we’d been eager to tip our hats to them for a while. We thought this was the right time to do it, because of everything it means,” René says.
The songs that comprise Classic were written by Felipe Valdés Leal, Narciso Monares, Rubén Darío Salcedo, Cornelio Reyna, and of course, Ramón Ayala.
Whenever INTOCABLE releases a new album, and this one is no exception, they never worry about topping the success of the previous one. As they say: “Instead, we just want to enjoy and live the moment – have fun with the music that comes from our hearts.”
This new material comes after 15 years of norteño-music virtuosity by INTOCABLE. A decade and a half that’s seen the release of dozens of hit singles and 13 studio albums, eight of which were certified Platinum. Their ballroom and theater concerts are packed to capacity, while their open-air, family-friendly festival dances are attended by tens of thousands.
Among INTOCABLE’s biggest hit singles are: “Estás Que Te Pelas,” “Eres Mi Droga,” “Enséñame A Olvidarte,” “Sueña,” “Eso Duele,” “El Poder De Tus Manos,” “Coqueta,” “Y Todo Para Qué,” “Eres Mi Droga,” “Aire,” ”Fuerte No Soy,” “Dame un Beso,” “Bastó” and “Tu Adiós No Mata.” Thanks to these resounding hits, INTOCABLE is known and respected not only by Regional Mexican fans but by Latin music fans internationally.
And the group once again achieves another radio hit with “Hay Ojitos,” the first single from Classic. Just weeks after the song’s release, it already hit No. 1 on the Latin airplay charts, joining the many other smash hits in INTOCABLE’s canon.
Boasting a trophy case full of awards, INTOCABLE has been honored with wins at the Grammys, the Latin Grammys, Univisión’s Premio Lo Nuestro and Premios Juventud, Furia Musical, Oye Awards, the Lunas, Tejano Music Awards and Premios de la Gente.
INTOCABLE’s music has made it to the silver screen, with “Déjate Amar” featured on the film American Visa (2005), and the small screen, via the title song of the hit Televisa soap Contra Viento y Marea (2005).
“Our family, by which we mean our fans, gets bigger all the time. It gives us a lot of satisfaction to see audiences happy and singing along. That’s our gasoline, our motor,” Ricky and René say.
Classic was a lot of fun to make. And INTOCABLE hopes that the good vibe makes fans enjoy it just as much as the group did in recording it. They really put everything into the making of this album.

Definitivamente, la influencia que han dejado Los Relámpagos del Norte en la vida de los integrantes de INTOCABLE,desde que eran niños y a lo largo de su carrera artística, queda de manifiesto en su nueva producción ‘Classic’. Un respetuoso tributo musical a Ramón Ayala y su grupo.
Los recuerdos de su infancia permanecen claros en su mente, sobre todo en el caso de su vocalista Ricky Muñoz... “Recuerdo cuando era niño. Era un domingo de Pascua y mi familia me llevó a ver a Ramón Ayala. Entonces dije: Yo voy a hacer eso...”
Y agrega: “Quisimos hacer este disco a manera de homenaje para Los Relámpagos del Norte, pilares de la música norteña a quienes, además de admirar, nos identificamos con ellos porque en su momento –durante los años 60’s– ellos vinieron a revolucionar la música norteña y nosotros lo hemos hecho en la actualidad.”
Finalmente señala entusiasmado… “Vivimos un sueño al estar junto a Ramón Ayala en el estudio.” Ramón Ayala es el productor de este disco.
Así, con esa influencia, INTOCABLE ha llegado a convertirse en un verdadero ícono de la música norteña. Todo empezó en Zapata, Texas, cuando un par de jóvenes –Ricky Muñoz y René Martínez– soñaban con el éxito día a día, con sus ensayos…
Años después, aquel lugar se convertiría en un estudio de grabación donde el pasado y el presente se unieron en esta ocasión, pues ahí se afinaron los últimos detalles de la grabación de este nuevo álbum, el número 13 de su discografía.
‘Classic’, como se titula esta nueva producción, pone de manifiesto el amor y gusto por la música norteña de sus líderes Ricky y René. En él reúnen 17 temas, todos convertidos en verdaderos clásicos hace ya algunos años por Los Relámpagos del Norte.
“Nosotros crecimos escuchando la gran música de Los Relámpagos y habíamos tenido la inquietud de hacerles este tributo; así que pensamos que éste era el álbum indicado para hacerlo por todo lo que significa”, comentó René, baterista de INTOCABLE.
Esta nueva producción incluye conocidas canciones de grandes compositores como Cornelio Reyna, Felipe Valdés Leal, Narciso Monares, Rubén Darío Salcedo, y por supuesto, Ramón Ayala.
Con la llegada de cada nueva producción, INTOCABLE no busca competir con la anterior y así lo explican: “Cada vez que realizamos un disco, nunca tenemos la intención de superar el anterior, sino disfrutar y vivir el momento, gozar la música que estamos haciendo de corazón”.
Este nuevo material es el resumen de 15 años de carrera artística siempre dedicados a la música norteña. En este lapso llevan el registro de 13 producciones y un sinfín de éxitos radiales y de ventas. Esto sin mencionar las multitudinarias presentaciones en grandes bailes y escenarios de gran importancia.
Hablar de INTOCABLE inevitablemente remonta a la gente a pensar en éxitos como “Estás Que Te Pelas”, “Eres Mi Droga”, “Enséñame A Olvidarte”, “Sueña“, “Eso Duele”, “El Poder De Tus Manos”, “Coqueta”, “Y Todo Para Qué”, “Eres Mi Droga”, “Aire”, ”Fuerte No Soy”, “Dame un Beso”, “Bastó” “Tu Adiós No Mata”, entre muchas otras, que los han llevado a formar parte de ese selecto grupo que ha conseguido hacer el crossover en las estaciones de radio.
Tal es el caso del tema “Hay Ojitos”, primer sencillo de ‘Classic’, su nuevo disco. Con apenas unas semanas de haberse lanzado, esta canción llegó al primer lugar nacional en las radios latinoamericanas de los EEUU, sumándose a la lista de los grandes éxitos de INTOCABLE.
En un breve recuento, se puede mencionar como un meritorio éxito las millonarias ventas que sus discos han logrado, y que los han hecho merecedores de múltiples reconocimientos, Discos de Oro y Platino, el Grammy, el Grammy Latino, Premio Lo Nuestro, Premios Juventud, las Lunas, Furia Musical, Premios Oye, el Texano Music Award y los Premios de la Gente.
La música de INTOCABLE ha llegado tanto al cine a través de su éxito "Déjate amar", tema central del largometraje American Visa (2005), como a la pantalla chica a través del tema que dio título a la telenovela “Contra Viento Y Marea" (2005).
“Cada vez crece más nuestra familia que son los fans. Nos da mucho gusto ver al público contento, cantando nuestras canciones. Esa es nuestra gasolina, nuestro motor”, declaran Ricky y René fundadores de la agrupación.
La propuesta de INTOCABLE con ‘Classic’, su nueva producción, es que los fans la disfruten igual que como el grupo la disfrutó a cada momento al realizarla. Es por eso que sus sentimientos han quedado plasmados en el disco.
Es un disco a través del cual las nuevas generaciones podrán conocer más de la buena música norteña.
