Jerry Rivera gives it all. He became known as a salsa singer. He has taken the path to pop ballads with great success. Now he is back, a different artist. Jerry has proven himself to be an exceptional performer, with a 15 year old career that started as a teenager. This has evolved into a solid background with various Grammy nominations that give faith of it. His loyal fans have been waiting for him. He's music is packed with powerful ballads, pop and salsa, hip hop and techno inspiration and the surprising inclusion of plena and reggaeton. Mastery, maturity and dominion of his voice are overpowering. He knows what he wants and where he is going. “¡Ay, mi Vida!” the time has come.
Jerry was born into a family with a strong musical background. His father, Edwin, a “trio” singer, and his mother, Sandy, a composer; they taught Jerry to appreciate and love music. He was only a teenager when he recorded his first album, "Empezando a Vivir". With his second recording, "Abriendo Puertas", he reached the highest positions in the charts; leading to a double platinum album. His 3rd, "Cuenta Conmigo", got him 10 platinum albums, 2 “Lo Nuestro” awards and sold over a million copies breaking previous records of other salsa idols. “Cara de Niño", his 4th album, was even more successful; bringing home a “Lo Nuestro” award, a Billboard award and his first Grammy nomination. More albums followed, along with more nominations, certifications and growing popularity. Then came "De Otra Manera" which included 2 songs accompanied by his father’s “trio” and his first ballad, “Ese”, which kept him for weeks in the first position on the Billboard charts. A change of label and the “Rivera” album started a period of growth and development that surprised audiences with the strength of his ballads. "Vuela Muy Alto" was followed by 2 more albums.
Once known as “el bebe de la salsa” (salsa’s baby), is now an adult; his maturity is evident in his new album “¡Ay, Mi Vida!”. When Sony and BMG merged, Jerry found himself back working with his old label where he conquered his greatest triumphs. This new album, in a new phase, has a whole different vision. Love songs, either in a mellow mood, pop rhythm or with an up-beat tempo, uplifting messages with hip hop sounds and techno influences and a duet with his sister Saned in 2 versions, ballad and salsa, show the quality of Jerry’s skills as a performer. You will find a winner in a surprising number that begins with a flamenco hint followed by the traditional folk Puertorrican sounds alternating with reggaeton. Here you can listen Jerry sing “Boricua siempre seré y Boricua yo moriré”, ( I will always be Puerto Rican & Puerto Rican I will die).
His evolution does not take him far from the salsa rhythms that have granted him so much recognition. Not to disappoint his fans, he includes a couple of these rythms merged with other bold musical proposals.
The most talented composers offered their songs. Songs by Danilo Ballo, Elena Roggero, Antonio Castro, Emanuelle Ruffinengo, Manuel Lopez, Jorge Luis Piloto y Norgie Noriega; mix with Jerry’s own. “Rios de Dolor” was written by Jerry and his sister Saned with whom he sings both versions of the song. “Boricua Siempre Sere” is music and lyrics, all Jerry’s talent. The album was completely recorded in Puerto Rico with Emanuele Ruffinengo, Ramon Sanchez and Norgie Noriega as producers.
Jerry is a complete artist, because his voice not only shines when he performs salsa but also other genres such as pop and bolero. Certainly, this album can be enjoyed by a variety of people with different musical tastes.
